September 1st, 2022 duality of meaning and practice

Speech Language Pathology is an interesting field. I can see the appeal and the challenge.

I can also see how some kids are scary and others are tear jerkers. Still others a a pure joy to work with.

Perhaps it has to do with the patients/clients desire to communicate verses their ability/inability to see a positive outcome even if/when they try there best.

Yet, observing from an anthropological perspective or attaching outcomes and statistics one has to wonder: when/where the child begins and the practice becomes child's play.

Kiddo had speech today, we made it into the actual clinic, rather than the playground. The rain may have helped with that a bit...

I sat in front of the door so kiddo would attend, the proff and student worked with kiddo. He is a challenge to work with, but once you get his attention and cooperation, he will work...

He said one of the games was "trash"...

But he counted 1-to-1 to ten. I was on the verge of "momma cry" happy tears.
